If you aren't fat adapted you aren't prepared

Have you ever had a meeting go longer than expected and delay your lunchtime? Ever been stuck in traffic making you late for dinner? How did you do? If you started to become hangry and became a little panicked as your stomach began growling then chances are you weren’t fat adapted. Being fat adapted means that your body turns to burning your stored body fat for energy when meal times are delayed or even skipped. This is the way our bodies were meant to operate, but now most of us live in an environment surrounded by sugar packed food within reach 24 hours a day.

Burn fat, not sugar

If you’re a sugar burner you probably can’t go more than about 3 or 4 hours without becoming ravenous. When you become fat adapted it feels like you’ve obtained some kind of superpower. You can focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about when your next meal is coming and if it’s going to be big enough to keep your hunger at bay (“…and for how long…and maybe I should get dessert…”).

Eat food, not products

The way to re-enable this human feature that you already have built into your genes is to show them that you are living in a fat-rich, sugar deprived environment. You do this through a low carb, high fat way of eating. On the menu are healthy fats, grass fed meat, eggs, fish, lots of vegetables. Have as much butter as you like. What you’ll need to avoid is anything with added sugars, industrial processed oils, preservatives, and other nutritionless chemicals that create products instead of food.

Prepare for missed mealtimes by knowing that you can skip them

When you’re fat adapted you can skip an entire meal without missing a beat. You eat less food less often and enjoy it more. Needing less food means you can afford higher quality food on the same budget.
